A Call to Action: Embracing Equity on International Women's Day and Beyond

On March 8th, each year, International Women's Day (IWD) is acknowledged, celebrated and honored at events and initiatives across the globe during Women's History Month.

This year’s IWD theme is “Embrace Equity.” Although, each year, we celebrate the many achievements of women across the globe, there is still much work to be done to achieve gender equity.

At The Good Success Network, this is a day where we focus on raising awareness and knowledge around gender discrimination and take action to drive gender parity and equity.

Being able to embrace and to achieve equity requires not only acknowledging the need for equal rights and equal pay for women, but it also accounts for the systemic historical disadvantages and present structures of oppression and privilege that exist and serves as a hindrance.

Our mission is to create a workforce that is equipped and a workplace that is diverse, equitable and inclusive for all people. This continues to be our mission, not only on today, but throughout the year as we partner with our clients to create inclusive workplaces for their employees to grow and thrive.

Today we challenge you to make a commitment to advocate for equitable opportunities and pay for all women. Listed below are some actionable steps you can take to move the needle forward on gender equity.

  1. Increase your knowledge on the challenges women face in the workplace, specifically around opportunities for advancement and pay. We highly recommend reading McKinsey's Women in the Workplace report, which sheds a light on many of these challenges.

  2. If you are in charge of hiring for your organization, ensure that the pay and benefits for roles are fair according to market rate and experience, as well as commensurate with the pay you would award a male employee for doing the same work.

  3. Assess where there are pay gaps within your current organization and bring those who are getting paid less for doing equal work up to where their peers are.

  4. Be transparent about pay across the talent management life cycle. This starts when you post a role by sharing the salary range in the job posting and carries over through the offer and promotion stages.

Call to Action: Take one step today to embrace and contribute to equity for women.
